October Report

Special Olympics have begun with the 2017 – 2018 competition year starting with one of the newer programs called young athletes. This is a program that was started for the younger grammar school children who are not yet of age to compete at state tournaments.

The sports of soccer, Flag Football, Level 1 Golf and Equestrian Events have all begun with competitions running through December and championships early next year. Bowling teams have begun training and practice they will start holding competitions soon

We currently have Special Olympics window clings for sale you can receive one for a $5.00 donation.

Special Olympics is always looking for volunteers to help at the many sporting events threw out the year. They run events threw out the entire state so there is always an event sometime during the year that everyone can help at. To volunteer all you have to do is register on line at go to volunteer section fill out the form and submit it. They will contact you with an approval and you can then begin signing up to help at any of the events state wide.

I would like to reach a goal of $10,000 donated and 1,000 hours given as a detachment this year.  This is a very reachable goal. So far we are at $3009.00 and 1 donation of $100 having to be returned because of an error in who the check was made out to.

Donations can be mailed to my home address of 19 Edison St. Bayville NJ 08721 how ever do not make checks payable to the detachment make all donation checks out to Special Olympics NJ and in the note put SAL Donation. I will handle all of the paperwork and recording of all donations on behalf of the Sons of The American Legion.

I would be interested in a possible Pin or shirt sale to help us reach our goal. If you have any ideas to help this committee I’m always open to help and guidance.

For God and Country
